Skin in the game
It’s what I love most about founders.
Founders risk their time, energy, reputation, and money to pursue opportunities, solve problems, create jobs, and strengthen communities. They have something on the line for their idea.
Founder energy is contagious energy - but it’s also profoundly ethical.
A bureaucrat is often separated from the consequences of his decision, but an entrepreneur puts it on the line. They’re accountable. The potential rewards align with the risks. We all benefit from their courage.
Giving advice, forming an opinion, judging ideas, or making a forecast is easy. It’s quite another to have skin in the game. My life’s work is for those with skin in the game.
In the Twin Cities, we set aside one week each year to celebrate the ethics of risk.
