Big and Scary and YES

That’s the order, isn’t it?

First, the information or input feels big. A board meeting. A decision. A product launch. Drafting articles of incorporation. An interview. The “we need to talk” text. A tiger behind a bush.

Then it’s scary. The input skips consciousness and heads down the spinal cord. The body responds with flight, fight, freeze, or faint. Sometimes, all of the above.

Then, it’s a yes. It’s not always a YES I’ll do that. It’s a yes, I acknowledge how it feels. I am bringing to my consciousness that fear in its variety of forms, creates a bodily response to freeze or flight or faint or fight. It’s the kind of YES that says if I’m going down this path, fear will be along for the ride.

Cheers for your next big and scary and YES.

Post inspired by Joslyn Schuster (age 6) when she was asked, “How do you feel about swimming lessons tomorrow?” She said, “Big and scary and YES.”
