On getting emotional about a Petri dish

Scientists don’t get too emotional about what’s happening (or not happening) in the Petri dish. After all, the petri dish is a test designed to generate information. 

Whereas a lab is full of Petri dishes and tests, our market-based economy sees startups as tests. In the bigger scheme, a startup is a Petri dish. 

Entrepreneurs don’t build their identity on what is or isn’t happening in the Petri dish. They are concerned about designing tests that reveal new information and generate actionable insights.
